The J. E. Caldwell & Company of Philadelphia commissioned the J. C. Boardman & Company of
Wallingford, Connecticut to create a sterling bowl for Grace Kelly to give to her wedding attendants for her upcoming wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco.
During the transatlantic voyage aboard the USS Constitution, where Grace Kelly along with her family members and fifty of her closest friends were sailing to Monaco for her wedding, Miss Kelly
hosted a lavish dinner for her bridal attendants whereby each one of the ladies was given this sterling hand-crafted bowl. On 18 April 1956, Miss Grace Kelly was married to His Serene Highness Prince Rainier, becoming
officially known as Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco. J.E. Caldwell & Company continues to sell this bowl as "The Grace Kelly Bowl" and Boardman
Silversmiths reproduced the bowl in various sizes and offered the bowl in Sterling and Pewter, whereby it continues to be a very popular item amongst brides for their bridal attendant or a special wedding gift.
